AN AWARD-WINNING Dawlish eatery is poised to launch a new musical charity fund-raiser.

Popular dessert and ice cream emporium The Local Scoop has plans to introduce a community jukebox.

Owners Jack Martin and Emma Ireland and shop manager Laura Kalynuk are hoping the project will bring entertainment to customers as well as raising money for local good causes.

Before they can get up and running, the jukebox needs some TLC as repairs need to be made to the number pad which has stopped working.

But once the machine is operational, customers will not be charged to choosing a tune.

However, the team hope small donations, or any loose change, would be made in return for a song.

A spokesman said: ‘Donations would be appreciated as we will choose a local cause to donate all the money from the juke box to each month.’

In the meantime, the hunt is on for CDs to play.

The jukebox holds up to 50 CDs.

In a trade with customers, anyone who donates a CD, in good condition with no scratches, can trade it in for a lucky dip scoop.

Offers can be made through the shop’s Facebook page giving the artist name and name of the album to join the Jukebox collection.

The Local Scoop opened in 2021 in Piermont Place and has since gained a reputation for its hand-made in Dawlish gelato in inventive flavours and including dairy free and vegan choices.

They have won numerous awards, including Gold at the Food and Drink Devon awards and at Devon County Show.
