A 19-YEAR-OLD woman from Newton Abbot has been fined for travelling on a train without paying the fare.

Courtney McFadden, of Mackrells Terrace, Wolborough Street, was found guilty in her absence by south and west Devon magistrates court. 

She now has to pay a total of £493.95 in fines and costs for failing to pay the £5.95 fare. 

In a prosecution brought by Great Western Railway, McFadden was charged with travelling on the train at Newton Abbot on July 5 without having paid the fare and with intent to avoid payment. 

She was fined £220 and ordered to pay compensation of £5.95, a victim services fund charge of £88 and costs of £180.
