POETS in Dawlish are being invited to put pen to paper for a special competition.

Dawlish Town Council is teaming up with Dawlish Poetry for Pleasure group and Dawlish Water Rotary Club to support a King’s Coronation local poetry competition.

Following the successful town poetry trail several years ago, the poetry group is promoting a Coronation Poetry competition to find three of the best short poems, up to 30 lines, in celebration of the King’s coronation.

The competition is open to locals aged 18 and over.

Organisers have come up with the theme of The King’s Coronation - A Royal Progress to give poets some inspiration.

Poetry group members David Pickton explained: ‘This is a great opportunity for people to express how they feel in a positive way about the King, who many feel has provided some excellent leadership since the Queen died.’

Judging of entries will be by members of the group and prizes will be awarded on the Bandstand of the Lawn on Sunday, May 7 for the three best poems selected.

The closing date for entries will be Saturday April 15 and entry forms can be picked up either from the Manor House in Old Town Street or by emailing Robin, one of the organisers on [email protected]
