A LOCAL resident has expressed their concern after the sea washed away the sand to reveal several metal spikes protruding from Coryton Cove's beach.

The spikes, embedded in concrete across the beach, are approximately 15cm long.

There are concerns that someone, particularly a child, could step or fall on the spikes, particularly those that are partially obscured by sand.

It is likely that the spikes come from parts of the old breakwater.

One walker described the spikes 'like a bayonet on the end of a gun', and added that 'someone could get seriously hurt, or worse.'

The spikes are predominantly located at the northeastern end of the beach, closer to Dawlish Town.
