A PLAY inspired by an early 20th century author’s depiction of life on Dartmoor will be touring the ancient expanse in March.

MED Theatre, a community theatre organisation and registered charity based on Dartmoor, are gearing for a Dartmoor-wide tour in March with a string of performances of their play ‘Granite’, a play inspired by John Trevena’s stark depiction of Dartmoor life.

Manaton and Moretonhampstead are among the venues.

The charity’s play will follow the storyline of Trevena’s novel, which it takes its name, while intergrating anecdotal and true stories from people of the moor over the last two centuries.

These stories will paint a picture of what life on the moor was really like, from the lows to the highs, and uses Trevena’s narrativs to explore themes of loneliness, hard labour, religion and love of the landscape.

John Trevena is a pseudonym used by Canadian-British author Ernest George Henham.
