DESPITE the clouds skygazers were treated to the sight of a partial solar eclipse over South Devon this morning (Thursday, June 10).

Our photojournalist Steve Pope was one of the lucky few who managed to grab a few shots of the celestial event which took place through scudding clouds.

Starting at just after 10am and peaking just over an hour later, it was be possible too see nearly a third of the sun being blocked out by the moon in what is known as an annular eclipse.

These only occur every one or two years, when the sun and moon are exactly in line with the earth but the apparent size of the moon is smaller than that of the sun.
