FIREFIGHTERS in Newton Abbot were called into action last night (Tuesday, May 5) following reports of a garage fire.
Crew were mobilised just after 7pm to a fire involving a single storey detached domestic garage and its contents, which included a car.
Using breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and a compressed air foam jet, the crew extinguished the fire, which Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service say started by accident.
The car was destroyed, and the garage sustained severe damage, the fire service added.
Torquay Road was closed in both directions, between Gloucester Road and Albion Hill, throughout the duration of the incident.
Devon Square was also closed.
The roads reopened shortly after 9pm.
