MORE than 500 people have signed a petition in support of family-run burger business.
Boss Burgers in Newton Abbot has been selling a range of burgers from a site on Ashburton Road next to Dolbeare’s garage.
But a complaint has been made to planners at Teignbridge Council about noise and increased traffic.
The owners have now made an application to the council for the retention of the use of the land.
A spokesman confirmed: ‘We received a complaint regarding this in January 2025 and have been investigating the matter.
'This has now resulted in the submission of an application for the retention of the use.
'The application was received on 10 May and is awaiting assessment and validation at present.
‘Once valid the application will be publicised in the usual manner.’
But the business owners have now launched an online petition which has so far gained support from 516 people.
It says: ‘We need your support to help save Boss Burger, a family-run independent food van located on Ashburton Road in Newton Abbot.
‘Regrettably, a resident has raised multiple complaints with Teignbridge Council.
‘These complaints focus on concerns about increased traffic and noise, despite our van being situated on a busy garage, located on one of the busiest arterial roads in and out of the town.
‘As a result of these complaints, Teignbridge Council has instructed us to apply for full planning permission or remove our business, even though our business operates on a well-established garage site that has been in operation for over 50 years.
'We are a small, family-owned business doing our best to support a young family, and we ask for your help in securing the future of Boss Burger.
‘Your support will make a significant difference in ensuring we can continue to operate and provide our service to the local community.’
