DAWLISH councillors John and Linda Petherick paid a visit to a breakfast club set up for service veterans.

Held once a month at The Smugglers Inn, the club was established four months ago by Heather Graham and her husband, veteran Bob.

The club needs to raise funds to raise awareness to reach as many veterans in the area as possible.

Cllr John Petherick served in the RAF for 24 years.

Also a member of Dawlish Water Rotary, he is hoping to host a Pig Race event to raise funds to support the club and help Heather and Bob to provide other activities to enable the veterans meet and support each other and make new friendships.

Cllr Linda Petherick said: ‘Heather and her husband are delighted that their event has been such a great success.’

She thanked the Smugglers for providing a venue for the club to meet.

This veterans’ breaksafst was a special one as it fell on the Saturday before Remembrance Sunday.

Royal British Legion Dawlish branch chairman Richard Hayward read the Exhaltation, and after a minute’s silence he recited the Kohima Epitaph... ‘When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we gave our today’
