It’s carnival time in Bovey Tracey this Saturday, August 1, with a procession due to start making its way through town at 6pm.

The theme of this year’s Carnival Week is ‘under the sea’, and local shops have entered into the spirit with special window displays.

The parade comes after nearly a week of community events including a picnic in the park, a treasure hunt, a bingo night and a quiz.

Wednesday evening sees a fun run, and there's a line dancing evening on Thursday.

Friday night sees the Bovey Bar.Challenge, in which teams of four in fancy dress compete in games at various pubs around the town.

On Saturday the carnival procession will start at the Whisky Distillery and proceed along Fore Street, Station Road, Newton Road and Ashburton Road, finishing at Thorns Cross.

There will be prizes for the best motorised entry, the best costumes for individual and group walking entries, and the best non-motorised participants (for instance with a pram or bicycle).

On Sunday a Grand Summer Fete will round off Carnival Week, with stalls and entertainment, a dog show and a duck race. The fete will be held at Mill Marsh Park from 10am until 4pm, and is free to attend.
