FROM BUILDING sets and sets of pirate-themed LEGO to spending hours and hours playing the video game series ’Monkey Island’, Ross Mayhew has such a passion for all things piratey that he wrote a book.
’The Tale of Richard Forsyth’ is the first book by the Newton Abbot local and it tells the fictional tale of one Richard Forsyth, an up and coming pirate who, while on a revenge-riddled quest to become the undisputed scourge of the sea, must contend with the joys of love and the woes of loss.
Regarding his foray into fiction Ross said: ’I have been writing and recording my own music since 2011 yet I have never really considered myself a writer, especially not when it comes to the world of books, let alone becoming a published author!
’It was in 2013, however, when I wrote a 20-minute song called ’The Tale of Richard Forsyth’ which centres around a pirate character I created
’I always felt it had the potential to be more than a song and so in 2020, after a few failed attempts, I committed to turning the song into a book.’
Ross’s book can be purchased either in-store at Westcountry Books in Newton Abbot or online via Amazon or Waterstones for a price of £4.99.
