EMERGENCY services were alerted to reports of a swimmer in difficulty in the sea near Dawlish Warren this afternoon.

An air and sea search was underway on Tuesday afternoon for the person believed to have been in the water.

The alarm was raised at 1.20pm to the person in the water at Langstone Road.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency is reported as confirming a HM coastguard helicopter from St Athan was scrambled to the scene.

Lifeboats from Teignmouth and Exmouth and Dawlish Coastguards rescue team were also called out.

It was also reported two search boats, a coastguard land vehicle were in attendance.

The man was recovered from the water with the help of members of the fire service and passed to the care of coastguard teams.
