POLICE have confirmed a person has died after being found on the railway line at Starcross station.
Emergency services were alerted at 2.15pm today following reports of an individual seen on the tracks.
Trains were halted between Exeter St Davids and Newton Abbot.
British Transport Police have now confirmed that a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
A BTP spokesman said: ‘We were called to Starcross station at around 2.15pm today following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
‘Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
'The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.’
Great Western Railway has said rail journeys may be delayed and cancelled until 7 p.m, but lines reopened at about 4.15pm.
The train company said: ‘Following the emergency services dealing with an incident between Exeter St Davids and Newton Abbot all lines have reopened.
‘Whilst service recovers trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.
‘Major disruption is expected until 19:00.’
