MEMBERS of Teignmouth’s Youth Council will be taking to the streets this weekend for Saturday’s Parkrun.
Their goal is to raise £160 to buy polo shirts embroidered with their Youth Council logo to help them stand out and show their enthusiasm at community events throughout the year.
The sponsored Parkrun will also provide a ‘symbol of their self-funded efforts’.
A spokesman for the adult Teignmouth Town Council said: ‘By working to raise the money themselves, the youth councillors are gaining valuable lessons in responsibility and accountability through budgeting and financial management.
‘They are also developing teamworking skills by supporting each other and getting creative with sponsorship ideas.
‘This initiative will help to enhance their community involvement and will hopefully instil a sense of pride in having raised the money independently, while also easing the financial strain on the council.
‘Any funds raised beyond their target will be added to the Youth Council budget, allowing them to participate in and organise even more activities and opportunities in the future.
‘Every donation, no matter the size, brings our youth councillors closer to their goals and shows them how much their community cares.’
