A MEMBER of the public managed to rescue a woman from the River Lemon in Newton Abbot after she got into difficulty trying to rescue her daughter's dog.

The woman entered the water after the bulldog fell in late Saturday morning [January 17].

A passer-by spotted the women and called out for help; a young couple walking by heard the call and rushed to help.

The man jumped in to the river to rescue the woman, while the lady ran alongside the river trying to find the dog, which had been swept further downstream.

Thankfully, the dog managed to get out of the river of its own accord and was soon reunited with the lady, who had been successfully rescued.

An ambulance soon arrived and both owner and dog were checked over and sent away.
