THE next screening by Teignmouth Film Society will be on Friday, April 22, is ‘First Cow’ (2019) – It’s set in ‘The wild west – but not as you know it’

The film is set in Oregon in the 1820s – a land of forests and rivers rich in beaver.

Life is hard, but men still believe in the land of opportunities.

Yet how is a poor man to get started? The answer for Cookie and his friend, King Lu, is by means of a small-scale scam involving the first and only cow in the territory!

The dreams of this quiet pair are modest and at first all goes well, but the success of their scam is short-lived.

This is a film of quiet and subtle humour, touching in its portrayal of the hardships and unfairness of the west under British colonial rule.
