WORSENING traffic congestion in Dawlish has led to a county councillor asking for an ‘urgent review’ of the traffic management system.

Cllr Rosie Dawson has raised a complaint to Devon County Council highways asking for the A379 and Elm Grove Road management plan to be looked at again ‘due to worsening congestion’.

Drivers are becoming increasingly frustrated with delays and hold ups through the town.

This morning traffic has been particularly bad.

A driver for Apps Taxis reported huge delays, saying at 9.30am, children were late for school, parents late for work, buses delayed and taxis unable to get anywhere on time.

Traffic lights in place currently on Exeter Road had led to gridlocked vehicles back as far as Holcombe.

Another driver said it had taken an hour to get from Teignmouth into Dawlish this morning.

Work by South West Water and Wales and West Utilities is ongoing.

SWW has introduced a one way system at Elm Grove Road while there are traffic lights in place in Exeter Road for gas work.

One resident said: ‘There are roadworks everywhere, traffic at a standstill, and endless hold-ups, people getting irate and refusing to reverse, which just makes everything worse.

‘What should be a quick drive is turning into chaos every time.’
