AS the UK’s coronavirus cases were thought to have hit 4.9 million, the latest government figures show there were 1,508positive tests over the past week in Teignbridge.

The UK figure is the latest estimate from the Office for National Statistics, which suggests up to one in 13 people has Covid.

In Teignbridge between March 26 and April 1, 1,508 people had a confirmed positive test result. This shows a decrease of -16.3% compared to the previous seven days.

However, between the same dates Teignbridge has recorded eight deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test.

The Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust reports there were 71 patients in hospital with coronavirus on March 29, none of them was on a mechanical ventilator.

Free testing for the illness came to an end yesterday, Friday.
