A TWO car crash closed the Westbound lanes of the A38 late last night, Saturday.

National Highways South West reported shortly before midnight:‘The A38 is closed westbound between the A380 near Kennford and B3344 near Newton Abbot (north). 

‘The closure is due to a collision involving two cars. 

‘One of the cars left the carriageway and headed down an embankment. 

‘Emergency services, including Devon and Cornwall Police are at scene. 

‘Delays are likely on the approach to this closure, with additional journey times also expected on diversion routes.’

Diverted traffic was advised to follow the solid circle diversion symbol:

Earlier this morning police tweeted: 'Police investigations are ongoing, following a collision/car heading down an embankment. '

Police said a man and a child both suffered injuries and were taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital for treatment.

In a final update on the accident this morning, Sunday, the Fire Service reports: 'Crews confirmed two persons have been extricated by fire service personnel using small tools.

'One further person had self extricated. All three persons were left in the hands of ambulance personnel.

'Crews made the vehicle safe and left the incident in the hands of the police.'

Fire crews from Ashburton, Bovey Tracey and Middlemoor took part in the operation.

Shortly before 10am on Sunday National Highways South West reported the A38 was now fully open.
