OWNERS of an independent music store in the heart of Newton Abbot celebrated their one year anniversary as custodians of the beloved shop this past weekend.

What started as a routine shopping trip to the town turned into a life-changing event for Marsha and Roger, who found themselves embracing an unforeseen opportunity.

In a twist of fate, the couple ended up becoming the proud owners of the renowned local record store, Phoenix Sound, in July 2022.

Reflecting on their new roles, Marsha and Roger said: ‘We are constantly looking at ways to improve and become more involved withing the local community, whilst still stopping and looking around at what we have and cherishing it.

‘Some days we still can’t believe we are here. We certainly wouldn’t call this a job that’s for sure.’

So, one year on Roger and Marsha would like to say a thank you to the local community, to the Phoenix Sounds Team, Jackie, and Charlie, for their support over this last year.

‘We made it! Our first year!

‘What a whirlwind year too.

‘Trying to keep the same local independent music store we all know and love, Phoenix Sound, whilst giving you all something different (We added an ‘s’).

‘We’ve had amazing experiences together—away days at the Jolly Farmer, mind-blowing live music in-store, epic DJ sets and even delicious bacon rolls.

‘But most importantly, we wanted to involve the most important people in the updating of the store... YOU!

‘Without you, we would not be here, so thank you for trusting us to keep the only popular, independent music store in our community.

‘Without you, we wouldn’t be celebrating this milestone.

‘Thank you for keeping us going, and here’s to the exciting journey yet to happen!

‘Let’s say cheers and toast to more unforgettable music moments together’.

With a commitment to nurturing the vibrant music community, Phoenix Sounds serves as a cultural hub for music enthusiasts, collectors, and artists alike.
