RESIDENTS in Teignmouth’s Charlemont Road say they have been waiting for three years for South West Water to repair a water main and are fed up with people ‘passing the buck.’

This comes in the wake of another Teignmouth resident complaining about the response time to fix a water leak in his road.

The Teignmouth Post was contacted by an irate resident who said: ‘A mains water leak in Charlemont Rd, Teignmouth, has been going on for about three years, wasting thousands of gallons of water.

‘It spreads across the road – from opposite no 19, – and in the winter often freezes over making it an ice rink and hazard to traffic.

‘At least one car has skidded, causing considerable damage. Now with another winter residents are worried there will be more accidents on the junction and bend.

‘Apparently SW water are now saying it is the fault of British Telecom who drilled into the water pipe somewhere to insert a cable!’

A Spokesperson for South West Water said: ‘We sent a team to the location to investigate and found it is not a leak from one of our assets.

‘It is likely to be spring or surface water run-off.

‘With this in mind, we would advise the customer to contact the council should they have concerns about water on the road.’

But the resident did not accept this adding ‘It has been spilling out for nearly three years and will soon start freezing again on a steep bend.

‘SWW have told locals it is not a spring and blame it on BT by damaging the the water main. Everyone seems to be passing the buck on this.’

A spokesperson for Devon County Council said: ‘We are aware of the issue and we are continuing to work with South West Water to find a solution.’
