The number of pubs in the district fell from 150 in 2010 to 125 in 2025.

Exeter and North Devon recorded the same percentage decline as Teignbridge, at 16.7 per cent.

South Hams fared slightly better, with a 16 per cent reduction, from 125 pubs in 2010 to 105 in 2025.

Despite the decline, Teignbridge had the highest number of pubs among these six neighbouring local authority areas in 2025.

Across the South West, pub numbers fell from 4,825 in 2010 to 4,005 in 2025, a decline of 17 per cent.

Across Great Britain, the total fell by 6,670, representing a 15.3 per cent reduction.

The study analysed Office for National Statistics counts of pubs and bars in 318 councils across Great Britain between 2010 and 2025, measuring the percentage change in each council's pub count against a 2010 baseline.

Councils with fewer than 50 pubs in 2010 were excluded from the rankings, leaving out 32 of Britain's 350 councils.

The data was captured on September 21, 2026.
