THE HUNT is on to find this year’s recipients of the Dawlish Civic Awards.

Dawlish Town Council wants to recognise the contributions of individuals and organisations for services to the parish and its people.

Last year’s winners were Marie Whitehead, volunteer at the Strand Community Centre, for her outstanding services to the community and Open Daw, which has been helping the community for 15 years.

Previous recipients include Dr Jill Diprose, founder of charity AIMS, who was awarded the British Empire Medal in this year’s New Year’s Honours.

The council is looking to present a personal award and an organisational award.

Nominations are now open for the 2022 awards. While the event was run in 2021, the 2020 awards were postponed due to the Covid pandemic. Nominees must fulfil certain criteria to be in with a chance

They must have made a material contribution to the advancement, wellbeing and welfare of the people of Dawlish.

Or they should have supported charitable work carried out in the parish.

Alternatively they could have assisted the work of the town council in a voluntary capacity.

Others may have demonstrated outstanding citizenship.

All nominations will be received by the Civic Amenities Committee which will make a recommendation for the award winners to the town council.

The awards will be presented during the Annual Meeting of the Town Council in May 2022.

The deadline by which to submit a nomination is Tuesday March 1.
