YOUNGSTERS aged 11 - 17 who live in or are educated in Teignmouth have until September 5 to stand for the town’s new Youth Council.

There are four vacancies on the initiative which is designed to empower young voices by providing a platform where they can express views and contribute to local decision-making.

Members of the Teignmouth Youth Council, of 12 members with eight appointed by local schools, will sit a one-year term and meet monthly.

They will be offered regular opportunities to support and collaborate with young individuals and organisations across the town that focus on addressing youth issues.

Four places are available to candidates who put themselves forward.

Mayor Cate Williams said: ‘This is a chance for young people to be heard and help shape the future of our community with their ideas and perspectives.

‘We currently have four vacancies available to enthusiastic individuals who are aged between 11 and 17 years, live and/or go to school in Teignmouth, are committed to attending monthly meetings and actively participate in council activities.

‘We’re looking for people who want to make a difference in the local community so please, if you think that’s you or you know someone who fits the bill, get in touch.

‘Democracy is something to be treasured and becoming a member of any council is a clear demonstration of support for a system that needs to be nurtured.

‘We look forward to hearing from plenty of candidates and seeing the benefits we know that Teignmouth Youth Council can deliver.’
