TEIGNMOUTH RNLI welcomes trainee Callum Duff to the team as he undertakes first training session aboard The Two Annes lifeboat.
Sunday saw Teignmouth RNLI’s newest recruit, Callum Duff, take to the sea aboard Teignmouth’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat, a much smaller vessel than he is used to.
Callum joins as a trainee crew member alongside a thriving career onboard international cruise liners as a deck officer.
Callum, like all RNLI volunteer crew, will be on call 24/7 when he is here on dry land, which will certainly keep him busy when on leave from the liners.
Despite his wealth of maritime knowledge there is still lots to learn when becoming part of the RNLI crew.
Training sessions occur twice a month focusing on teamwork, technical competence and safe operating procedures covering everything from boat handling, search and rescue, navigation, radar training, radio communications and casualty care.
The crew also practice various scenarios alongside other emergency services such as the Coastguard, as well as working alongside nearby Lifeboat stations, Exmouth and Torbay for dual training exercises.
Crew training is a continual process, with the RNLI providing first class training for all its crew, alongside the necessary lifesaving equipment and support and guidance needed for the crew.
Donations to the RNLI helps ensure that the crew receive the best possible training and that they are well equipped to save lives at sea.
Teignmouth RNLI wish Callum all the best with his training, and look forward to seeing him become a fully qualified member of the crew.
