MAYOR of Teignmouth Iain Palmer read the proclamation in the Triangle on Monday to mark the accession of King Charles III.

The event took place in the town centre at 4pm.

In a message, Cllr Palmer said: ‘On behalf of the council and the people of Teignmouth, we sadly announce the passing of our Queen.

‘She will be missed by us all and our thoughts and prayers are with the family on this very sad occasion.

‘God bless her for all her years of service to the country.

‘She will now join her beloved husband Prince Phillip.’

Cllr Palmer told the Teignmouth Post the event went ‘very well’.

He said: ‘There was a good attendance.’

A prayer was read by the council’s chaplain, Baptist Minister Jamie Redfern.

Town Crier Patrick Brophy made an announcement around the town and before the official proclamation.

Flowers can be placed in the Triangles around the flagpole.

On Sunday September 18 there will be a service of thanksgiving at St Michael’s Church.
