ON a magical and crisp night, Teignmouth was lit up for Christmas on Saturday.

Chair of the Town Council’s Christmas Committee, town councillor Cate Williams, said: ‘The Teignmouth Town Festive Day and Christmas Tree Light Switch On Event was better than we could have imagined.

‘I would like to pass on my personal thank you to the team involved in putting on the event, the Town Council, Keith Underhill and the Teignmouth Traders, and all of those who took part throughout the day from the market stall holders, our charity groups, our talented musicians and singers, our sound engineer who was kept very busy, our mobile entertainers including Scrooge and Tinks the Elf with his beautiful long legs, Chloe Aston with her piano bike, the choirs and singing groups, our churches enabling carols to be sung out in the open air just in time for the switch-on and most of all, our Teignmouth community for bracing the crisp weather and coming out to watch our Christmas Tree show off its lighting.

‘A particular thank you is given to Santa for placing Teignmouth into his busy diary and visiting which the children (and adults) enjoyed with what seemed like a never-ending queue for quick chat in the beautifully decorated Grotto.

‘Thank you, one and all, and have a healthy and happy Christmas.’
