TEIGNBRIDGE police are urging caution and consideration this Halloween, highlighting the concerns of vulnerable community members.

A spokesperson for the Teignbridge Policing Teams said: ‘We are very aware that some in our communities will not want to participate in the celebrations, and that some will physically dread the door knocking.

‘Those more vulnerable in our community can find anyone knocking on their doors quite frightening particularly in the hours of darkness.

‘We want those who want to participate to stay safe and look out for each other.

‘We would ask for some basic considerations’.

Police say children should always be accompanied by an adult, only going to the addresses of people you know or that indicate they are happy for a visit.

They may have a pumpkin outside, a lantern up or some spooky decorations, for example.

The spokesperson added: ‘If no one answers a door, please just walk away, no tricking, as this could lead to claims of anti-social behaviour.

‘We hope that everyone who participates has a good evening and that they get a good haul of goodies to share’.
