LIVE music is coming to Newton Abbot Museum.

Singer-songwriter Nicky Swann is set to perform at the venue on Saturday, March 19, in an evening billed as Songs From a Market Town.

The tracks, all from her 2012 album How Does Your Land Lie?, have been inspired by the museum’s collection and demonstrates Nicky’s connections to her home town.

Curator Charlotte Dixon said: ‘This is going to be something very special, live music right here in the unique setting of the museum.

‘And the fact that Nicky’s music has been inspired by our treasures is thrilling.

‘This is a real honour for us and I know people are going to love the show.’

This won’t be the first time Nicky has performed at the former St Leonard’s Church, now Newton’s Place which is home to the museum, community rooms and Newton Abbot Town Council.

During the early stages of the project in Wolborough Street, when plaster was falling from the ceiling and supporters were trying to raise the £2.2 million needed for the conversion, she played at a fundraiser, much to the audience’s appreciation.

‘I hadn’t joined the team at that stage in the Newton’s Place project so didn’t get to see Nicky play here on that occasion,’ said Charlotte.

‘But I’m certainly not going to miss her this time round and I’d urge everyone to get their tickets as soon as possible because we’re keeping the numbers quite low.

‘I’m just so excited that we can do something like this in a museum, we’re about so much more than the past.

‘We’re part of Newton Abbot’s present and very much intend to be part of its future too.’

Tickets are priced at £10 each and are available at www.wegottickets.com/nickyswann.

They can also be purchased from Newton’s Place, call 01626 201121 for details.

Proceeds from the event will assist the museum’s community engagement and education programme.
