The Christmas shoebox collection co-ordinated over a wide area by Dawlish Water Rotarians has been another success with some 800 boxes being prepared for the lorry which will deliver them to Moldova this week.
‘We would like to thank all those who once again supported this great appeal, including Fraser Wheeler estate agents and the Strand Centre that acted as local collection points,’ says Bill Hande, the Rotary club’s international chairman.
‘The shoeboxes are always a source of delight to the poor children and families in Moldova.’
At their club meeting at the Mount Pleasant Inn, Rotarians also put together a bumper package of food and essentials for the HITS food bank in Teignbridge, a charity that the club regularly supports.
Dawlish Water President Anne Harrison, said: ‘This year, with rising energy and other household bills, we feel it will be even more important to support people who really need help with food.’
Meanwhile Rotarians will be out in the Dawlish town centre on December 17, 18 and 23 looking for support for a Christmas charity collection.
