Ashburton & Buckfastleigh Rotary Club is only a small group, but it comprises so many talents amongst its members.

They are all always so willing to contribute those talents to whatever we are doing, which makes the club the success it is.

One such member is John Broderick, who, while not as mobile as he would like, is always keen to support the club. John was 96 at the end of September, and, as it was difficult for him to attend our weekly meeting, we went to him. When asked if he would like a drink, John is famous for asking for a sustaining whisky, so a few of us popped around to his place with a rather good bottle of his favourite drink.

John has a wonderful sense of humour, and just to test his mental ability, his wife Jean will regularly ask him: ‘Who is the Prime Minister?’ and in the blink of an eye he will tell her it is Disraeli. This question will be followed by asking the date, which seems to be November 23rd 1872!

He is more than aware he is entertaining us; and well, it works for me!
