DEVON’S fire service is to welcome the very best rope rescue teams from across the UK as it hosts a rope rescue challenge.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service will host the United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) Rope Rescue Challenge 2025 this week.

The two-day competition will see rescue teams from across the country descend upon Butlins, Minehead, to showcase ‘skill, innovation, and casualty-focused excellence’, the UKRO says.

It a ‘unique opportunity’ to see some of the UK’s most experienced rope rescue practitioners push themselves to the limit in demanding environments, Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service say.

Members of the public are welcome to come and watch the challenges taking place.

Alex Tilley, one of the event organisers from Devon and Somerset, said: ‘It promises to be a fantastic few days showcasing skill, teamwork, innovation and casualty-focused excellence across our rope rescue community’.

There will be eight fire and rescue service teams competing, from Devon and Somerset, London, Mid and West Wales, South Wales, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Avon, and West Midlands.

The competition runs over two days, with each team completing four to five rope rescue scenarios.

The competition will be taking place from 8am-5pm on both days.

It is free for the public to come and watch and you can come onto the resort from 9am-5pm.

You will need to come to the first entrance which is West Gate, security will give you a wrist band and direct you where you need to go.

There will be designated spectator areas as there are works being carried out in the area.
