MOTORISTS have been dealing with huge traffic tailbacks through Teignmouth today.

Work by the National Grid is taking place in Bitton Park Road with four-way traffic lights in operation.

But drivers have been caught up in miles of traffic queuing as far back as Bishopsteignton.

Motorists have reported that the hold-up has been an ‘absolute joke’.

One reported being sat in the queue into Teignmouth for 40 minutes while another said it took one hour and 15 minutes to get from the Metro garage in Bishopsteignton to Shaldon Bridge.

The work is scheduled to continue until January 17.

Devon Highways have said the congestion is due to faulty temporary traffic lights.

A spokesman said: 'This is affecting traffic heading towards Teignmouth. We have made the company responsible aware and they will attend as soon as possible.'
