MORE than 50 cyclists took part in this year’s Dawlish Vintage Cycle event.
Riders came from as far afield as Essex, Somerset and Cornwall to join in, wearing period costume and riding vintage bikes, some dating back almost 100 years.
One of the organisers, vintage cycling enthusiast Robert Porch was delighted with the day.
He said: ‘We had a lot of first timers which was great who were able to share the joy.
‘It is a very relaxed time we have, cycling a bit, enjoying tea and the wonderful countryside.
‘And we are able to have conversations while we travel along.
‘We are very lucky that David Hoare allows us to ride through the grounds of Luscombe Castle and the Earl and Countess of Devon who allow us access to the land at Powderham.
‘The weather was perfect and it was so relaxing.’

Robert rode his own 1935 Golden Sunbeam bike, which is a very rare bike, while there were other older models including a Penny Farthing.
Robert also thanked Dawlish Town Council and particularly projects officer Angie Weatherhead for helping to organise the event.
Musical entertainment was provided by the Liberty Sisters and cream teas were available from Gays Creamery.
More vintage cycling events are planned for the summer.
