QUICK thinking and teamwork prevented a major incident today, Monday, as firefighters from Buckfastleigh and Ashburton fought a hay fire.
On their Facebook page Buckfastleigh Fire Station said: ‘Today along with Ashburton Fire Station we attended a fire involving large hay bales housed within a barn which also contained fertilisers.

On their Facebook page Buckfastleigh Fire Station said: ‘Today along with Ashburton Fire Station we attended a fire involving large hay bales housed within a barn which also contained fertilisers. ‘Quick thinking and skilled driving of a telehandler by the farmer meant we were able to remove all the hay and deal with it outside and away from the added hazard of the fertilisers, saving further spread to the barn in the process. ‘Water supply was limited so we utilised the water bowser which came from Torquay Fire Station.’ Pictures supplied by Buckfastleigh Fire Station)
