HAVING completed an art project, pupils from a Teignbridge primary school showed off their creations to members of the art socity that helped fund it.

Kingskerswell Church of England Primary School pupils worked alongside a professional artist to create mosaics representing the four school houses: Meadfoot, Goodrington, Babbacombe and Hollicombe.

A fifth mosaic, which depicts all four house emblems, was also made.

The project was made possible thanks to a donation from the Arts Society Teignbridge, a group of people who share a curiosity and a passion to see the world through the eyes of the arts.

Formed in the late 80s, the society, which meet at the Courtenat Centre in Newton Abbot, donated £500 towards the project, a cheque for which was formally handed over to the schools, headteacher, Rachel Miller.

‘We were delighted to be the sponsors of the art project at Kingskerswell Primary School’ Jane James, Chairman of the Arts Society Teignbridge, said.

‘The project is designed to give the children an experience of a wider range of art that develops their skills and supports their emotional wellbeing in this, their transition year, and something which research shows has a real impact’ she added.

The Helen Foundation also donated £400 towards the project, enabling all Year 6 children to experience working with mosaics for the first time.

Kingskerswell Primary School headteacher, Rachel Miller, said: ‘What it has meant as a school is that we have be able to afford to get a top quality artist in and give the children a really positive experince.

‘And in this current climate of council budget constraints its not something we can afford to fund out the school budget anymore.’
