High street store set to close

POUNDLAND’S store in Newton Abbot is set to close its doors in October, it can be confirmed.

The final day of trading expected to be Saturday, October 10.

The variety retailer’s closure will mean the loss of another familiar high-street name in the town.

It is understood that an increase in rent is behind the decision to close the store, although this has yet to be confirmed.

The Mid-Devon Advertiser has approached Poundland for further details regarding the closure, including the reasons behind the decision and how staff will be affected.

The variety store chain was founded by Dave Dodd and Steven Smith in 1990 and originally sold all of its items at the single price of £1.
