POLICE in Bovey Tracey have alerted residents to attempts of counterfeit £50 notes being used in local shops

While on foot patrol in the town on Sunday afternoon, local officers were alerted to two young males attempting to use counterfeit £50 Royal Bank of Scotland notes in shops and pubs.

PCSO Paul Wilson of the Rural Teignbridge Policing Team said: ‘The suspects were purchasing low-value items in an attempt to receive genuine change.

‘The notes have been confirmed as fake.

‘Please remain vigilant when accepting high-value Scottish notes, but remember smaller value notes may also be counterfeit.

‘If you suspect a counterfeit note, retain it where possible and report it to police, along with any CCTV evidence.

‘Thank you for helping protect our local businesses’.
