A LOCAL police sergeant has reassured residents that officers will continue to support the community following the death of Ann Widdecombe.

Local Neighbourhood Team Leader, Sgt Ryan Cook, said a dedicated team of local officers would remain in the area to provide assistance, answer questions and offer reassurance as the investigation continues.

He said police understood the death of the former Conservative minister had caused ‘considerable shock, sadness and concern’ among residents and confirmed officers were working closely with local authorities to support the community.

‘We want to reassure you that a dedicated team of local officers continue to work with the community to offer support and assistance’, Sergeant Cook said.

‘We are also working closely with Ilsington Parish Council, Bovey Tracey Town Council and Teignbridge District Council to ensure you are all supported’.

Sergeant Cook said neighbourhood officers would continue to be visible in the area and encouraged anyone with concerns to speak with them.

‘We know that incidents of this nature can understandably make people feel anxious’, he said.

‘Our officers are part of the community, and we will continue to be there should you need us’.
