Devon and Cornwall police are searching for new locations where their dogs can practise chasing and apprehending criminals.

The dog training section is currently struggling to find suitable sites, preferably in the Exeter area or along the A30 and A38 corridors.

Wide open spaces such as fields are needed for the dogs to practise running and chasing over a distance, while large yards with vacant or semi-derelict buildings are good for exercises in search techniques.

Devon and Cornwall Police say they can’t pay for the use of land or property for dog training, but the visible police presence is a good security measure to deter potential intruders.
