THE number of police officers who took sick leave for either depression, anxiety or stress last year has been revealed by a Freedom of Information (FOI) request.
Between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025 the number of Devon and Cornwall Police’s serving officers who took sick leave due to stress was 366, the FOI request shows.
Of the total, 42 were off due to anxiety, 23 due to depression, 24 due to post-traumatic stress and the remaining 276 for ‘other stress’.
In 2023, by comparison, the total number of officers that took sick leave was 225, another FOI has shown.
Of the total, 48 were off due to anxiety, 22 due to depression, 30 due to post traumatic stress and the remaining 125 due to other stress.
