TEIGNMOUTH and Dawlish police have issued a reminder for parents about the legality of e-scooters ahead of Christmas.

A spokesman said: 'E-scooters remain classified as a "mechanically propelled vehicle", the same category as a car.

'This means they are included in the Road traffic act and are governed by its rules.

'It is illegal to use them on a public road or pavement, unless they are registered or insured.

'This is a contentious issue, but until the government make a decision, it will remain the same.

'We will always issue words of advice around this issue, but if it is ignored or a E-scooter is ridden in an anti-social manner, we will use our seizure powers.

'Parents, a gift you may have spend hundreds of pounds on, may then cost you more money in recovery fees.'
