POLICE are appealing for information after reports of people disturbing ground-nesting birds in Chudleigh.
The incidents are said to have taken place between June 14 and June 19 in an area known for protected wildlife habitats.
Witnesses reported seeing individuals walking through nesting sites, waving sticks and deliberately flushing out birds.
Officers are keen to identify those involved and are also asking anyone present at the time, who believe their actions were legitimate, to come forward.
Anyone with information, photographs or other evidence that could assist the investigation is urged to contact Devon and Cornwall Police on 101, quoting crime reference 50260159891.
Police have also reminded the public that wild birds are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act.
They say that if anyone witnesses suspicious behaviour in nature reserves, lakes or wildlife areas, they should call 999 if the incident is ongoing, or 101 if it is not an emergency.
