After a couple of quiet years due to COVID, the trustees of a local community space are gearing up for two days of fun in the sun on the edge of Buckfastleigh.

The Orchard Millennium Green is inviting residents and visitors to join its Annual Fun Days over the Bank holiday weekend, this Saturday and Sunday.

Organisers are promising ‘a bumper weekend of family–orientated attractions including music, refreshments, fun and games with lashings of patriotic cheer in-between’.

Trust chairman Huw Cox said: ‘After two years when we have all had to social distance in the national interest, we are very excited to invite everyone to now come together for a national celebration.

‘We are ready and raring to bring another fun afternoon, organised by the community, for the community so please come along to what promises to be another quintessentially British party.

‘Please remember to dig out and come dressed in your best red, white and blue outfits and we’ll look forward to seeing you there.’

The trust can already announce they will be joined by the jazz group ‘Band Friday’.

They will also be joined by the Royal British Legion as well as a new organisation – the Buckfastleigh Action for Nature (BANG) group (setup as part of Devon County Council’s ‘Life on the Verge’ biodiversity initiative) who will be officially launching their project as part of the event.

Saturday will feature all the favourites of fun day including the famous Duck Race (whose duck will win their backers a prize this year?), fun, games, refreshments and a variety of stalls as well as the Buckfastleigh Action for Nature Launch event.

Sunday will then feature Band Friday and an invitation to all to bring their own pack lunch for a big community picnic.

The Orchard Millennium Green is a community space at the edge of Buckfastleigh beside the Mardle and Dean Burn rivers.

It is run by a board of trustees, who aim to host a variety of annual activities and events for the benefit of the local community.

Mr Cox added: ‘It is a real pity that we have had to scale back our activities due to the pandemic over the past few years, but are now looking forward to inviting patrons back to the Green.

‘We would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the past couple of years and are pleased to announce that our Tea on the Green afternoons have already made a welcome return.

‘Please do come and join us for a lazy Sunday afternoon in the sun.’

Mr Cox also extended an invitation to keen volunteers to come and join them. Please come and speak with a member of the team for more information.”

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Party will take place over the Bank Holiday Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, June 4 and 5, from 2pm at the Orchard Millennium Green.
