LAST year’s lockdown Poppy Wall in Dawlish to mark Remembrance Day has returned to the town

The wall of knitted and crocheted poppies on the railings of Dawlish Bowling Club proved a popular sight in the town during a time when the public were unable to gather.

The poppies were made by members of Dawlish WI and this year it is hoped to be able to cover the whole area.

Town council spokesman Angie Weatherhead said: ‘Anyone can add a poppy.

‘We had more than 600 last year – knitted and crocheted and they were washed and dried and are ready to start it all off this year.

‘Dawlish WI have been knitting for some time and the dispaly looks really good.

‘It was initially the wall just for last year as a lockdown option but people loved it so its back this year.

‘The wall will be the focal point for the 11am silence on November 11.’

Remembrance Day events are also due to return this year.

There will be a parade from 2.40pm from the Baptist Church to the memorial garden on November 14, followed by wreath laying and service in St Gregory’s Church.
