THERE have been more than 200 recorded incidents of arson in the first half of 2025, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has shown.

A total of 250 incidents, four of which occurred on a farm, have been recorded by Devon & Cornwall Police from the beginning of the year up until June 26, the FOI request shows.

Last year, there was a total of 444 incidents.

In the past five years, 2022 saw the most number of incidents at 583.

Ten of the 583 incidents of arson in 2022 occurred on a farm.

Arson is when someone causes criminal damage by setting fire to a person's property.

The maximum penalty for anyone found guilty of arson is imprisonment for life.
