THE funeral of Maxwell Summerhayes was marked with many references to his military service.

Max, aged 99, died at this Dawlish home last month, and was buried at Dawlish Cemetery last week. To honour the man who saw action in the Normandy landings, members of the Dawlish and Starcross branches of the Royal British Legion attended and two Standards were lowered as his coffin arrived.

They also preceded him to his final resting place. Bugler Ex-Royal Marine Bandsman Billy Ginn, from the Military Funeral Bugler Castleford website, sounded The Last Post and Reveille by his graveside.
