NEWTON Abbot WI recently took part in a ‘Pocket Meadow’ project

The idea is to share seeds that will bloom into wildlife-friendly flowers, not just in large meadows, but in corner plots, window boxes and small borders.

As such, Newton Abbot WI reached out to 1st Newton Abbot Sea Scout group.

The Cub section prepared a one by one metre square piece of land for the seeds,

‘The children had to read the recipe, measure out the flour, salt and warm water, then adding the wild flower seeds’, said Newton Abbot WI president, Karen Jenks.

‘Mixing it altogether with tools to begin with, and then their hands - they had great fun’, Karen added.

The Cubs made two ‘seed bombs’

‘They are all looking forward to monitoring the “plot” and keeping Newton Abbot WI informed of progress’, Karen said.
