A MAN from Newton Abbot has been cleared of attacking his mother and damaging her home after she withdrew the charges.

Reece Opie, aged 25, of Clifford Street, Newton Abbot, was found not guilty of assault and criminal damage by Recorder Donald Tait at Exeter Crown Court when the prosecution offered no evidence.

Miss Judith Constable, prosecuting, said the complainant, who is Opie’s mother Rachel, no longer supported the prosecution and it was not appropriate to try to force her to give evidence against her son.

Opie denied battery against Rachel Opie on December 9,2022, threatening to destroy her property by fire, threatening to kill her and  causing criminal damage to glasses, an ornament and a television.

All the offences were alleged to have taken place on December 9, 2022.
