A NEW speed camera expected to be installed in Newton Abbot next month will also detect red light offences, Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed.

The Mid-Devon Advertiser was told the installation will take place ‘some time in March’, though an exact date was not given.

The new cameras, which will be fixed atop a bright yellow column, one detecting speed in the Newton Abbot direction and the other toward Penn Inn, are in response to a number of collisions, police say.

Adrian Leisk, Head of Road Safety at Devon & Cornwall Police, said: ‘The camera is in response to 12 serious injury collisions and 13 slight injury collisions within 300 metres of this new camera location between 2020 and 2024.

‘When the camera is installed, the temporary yellow signs will be replaced with the traditional blue camera warning signs’.
